We are pleased to announce the 2nd Cold Spring Harbor Asia conference on Assembly, Plasticity, Dysfunction and Repair of Neural Circuits which will be held at the Suzhou Dushu Lake Conference Center in Suzhou, China. The conference will begin at 7:30pm on the evening of Monday October 17th, and will conclude after lunch on Friday, October 21st, 2011.
This conference is similar in design to the famous Cold Spring Harbor meetings series, a program now in its 75th year. he conference will include eight oral sessions and two poster sessions covering the latest findings across many topics in membrane proteins research. Many talks will be selected from the openly submitted abstracts on the basis of scientific merit and relevance. Social events throughout the conference provide ample opportunity for informal interactions.
Background:
In the past few decades, developmental neuroscience has seen remarkable progress in many areas, such as early induction and patterning, neuronal migration, axon guidance, dendrite development, synapse formation and activity dependent mechanisms. While many important questions remain unsolved in each of these areas and will occupy the attention of many researchers, two new changes have begun to shift the landscape of developmental neuroscience. First, with more and more knowledge and tools resulting from these fundamental studies becoming available, the questions of how these developmental programs operate to form functional neural circuits that give rise to behavioral functions are becoming increasingly accessible. Second, many nervous system disorders have now found neural development roots, making virtually all knowledge of neural developmental clinically relevant. This meeting would like to reflect such new trend and bring together researchers at the cutting edge of neural circuit assembly, circuit function and dysfunction and circuits disease and repair to foster stimulating interactions.

Keynote Speakers:
Invited Speakers:
The invited keynote and session speakers will be presenting cutting edge discoveries in the area of circuit development and circuit function. We encourage participants from around the world to apply for this meeting and will select a small number of short presentations to be included in our sessions. The sessions will include axon wiring, dendrite morphogenesis, synapse formation, neurogenesis, circuit function and behavior, neural circuit disease and regeneration.
We are eager to have as many young people as possible attend since they are likely to benefit most from this meeting. We have applied for funds from government and industry to partially support graduate students and postdocs. Apply in writing to stipends@csh-asia.org stating need for financial support - preference is given to those submitting abstracts.
We look forward to seeing you at Suzhou in October 2011.
